According to a recent article in the New York Times, more people are using Apple iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches to watch mobile video than any other devices. The article, “80% of Mobile Video Views Happen on Apple Devices,” reveals the research findings of FreeWheel.
Based on the 2011 Video Monetization Report by FreeWheel, Apple’s iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch generate the majority of mobile video views. Here are some of the details included in the report:
Four-fifths of all mobile video views occur on Apple iOS devices.
30 percent of all video views happen on the iPhone and iPod Touch.
20 percent of video views are done using Android devices.
In FreeWheel’s opinion, Apple is dominating the mobile video views due to the fact that they had an early lead in the mobile video market. The New York Times reports that FreeWheel “hypothesizes that greater viewership on Apple devices represents the priorities of video publishers and mobile developers as well, who build for iOS devices first before moving on to other platforms.”
