As big and dominating as Google seems, they're not immune to the problems faced by their own competition. Many of us tend to think that Google has this search engine optimization (SEO) thing down pat, but looking at Google's latest SEO report card, the results are surprising and could affect the way attorneys are marketing.
Google's SEO is optimized for users, so there are some aspects which could be tweaked on Google's end to make its SEO more effective for search engines. This is highlighted in an analysis of over 100 Google properties, which include meta description tags, consistent internal linkage, title tags, etc. Surprisingly, the results revealed that only about a third of the properties analyzed had meta description tags associated with them. This is disconcerting because meta descriptions play a huge role in determining how your snippets are presented among search results.
Another of Google's SEO properties shown to be inefficient was different URLs leading to the same content. This is not a huge issue, but demonstrates that Google has some fine tuning to do.
Overall, Google's SEO still does a great job, and they should be applauded for their efforts, especially with all the pressure to stay on top of the search game. But what do the inefficiencies mean for your website? It means that you or someone you've hired to manage your site should be on top of known SEO blunders and make changes to your web site as needed. Google is constantly tweaking their SEO properties, so your best option is to stay informed.
