Facebook has recently added "rich comments" to their website. Previously, when you posted a link or video on Facebook, a preview or thumbnail was shown to your fans. There was no preview if your fans commented with a link or video, which resulted in long URLs that were often overlooked. (Long URLs are nearly extinct in the social media world anyway since you can track clicks with services like bit.ly.) Web page previews and video thumbnails will add a new level of engagement to the social network.
How does this affect your law firm? It's not enough to just set your social media on autopilot with a tool like Hootsuite. Imagine you are at a cocktail party: no one wants to hear you talk all the time! You need to listen and engage. The same applies to social media. Treat the relationships you create online just like you would if you met these people in person. Previews in comments are almost certain to generate more comments and engagement from users, and you will have more opportunities to grab and keep the attention of your fans.
Social media is an opportunity that you cannot afford to ignore. Watch our free webinar on social media at SocialMediaAndAttorneys.com, or get a free hard copy of our new book by Tom Foster and Ross Jurewitz, Secrets of Social Marketing for Attorneys Revealed: Mission 101.
