Facebook Messages Has Drawn A Lot of Attention – Good & Bad

“Facebook Messages: the worst thing that ever happen.” This statement is pretty extreme and is actually the title of a recent article posted on PCWorld.com.

Facebook always seems to be up to something new, just take the unveiling of Facebook Groups and Pages as examples. So, the most recent announcement isn’t shocking.  The social networking giant has rolled out an enhanced messaging system that is supposed to make communicating with your friends and family members easier than ever.

Here is a brief description of the new feature, Messages, from Facebook’s website:

“You decide how you want to talk to your friends: via SMS, chat, email or Messages. They will receive your message through whatever medium or device is convenient for them, and you can both have a conversation in real time.  You shouldn't have to remember who prefers IM over email or worry about which technology to use.  Simply choose their name and type a message.”

According to Facebook, you can also get an email address, “@facebook.com.”  However, the article posted on PCWorld.com mentioned some issues you might face if you decide to use Facebook for emails:

  1. You can’t copy anyone on your messages.
  2. There are no subject lines.
  3. If you send someone an email using your Facebook account, that person will be able to view your profile.
