Follow Up and Follow Through with Every Lead

24. No, we are not referring to the hit television series. This 24 is in reference to how many hours you have to follow up with a lead. If you wait longer than that, it's likely the lead has found another lawyer.

How do I effectively follow-up?

  • Ask for help! The initial phone call or email should be done by your staff. If you do not have a staff to handle this, then consider outsourcing.

  • Have a follow-up plan. This should be done prior to your first lead. It should state the exact steps you and your team makes, the responsible parties, and time frames.

  • Make use of a database. You will need somewhere to keep the contact information. Type in their information as soon as possible.

  • Follow up forever! Have a plan devised that allows you to stay connected on a long-term basis. Try out newsletters, a quarterly phone call, or sending out legal updates. Do not drop a lead unless they ask you to.

Though the public prefers the internet because there is not another person right there hounding them for their business, they also want prompt and considerate customer service. The first part of that service is a quick response to their inquiry.
