How to Customize Your Facebook Business Page URL

While a large portion of our time is now spent online, there are still times when we want to send a friend, potential client, or customer to an online entity when we aren't at a computer.  This is why domain names were invented in the first place.  Domain names can be a friendly, easy-to-remember method of directing people to destinations on the web instead of IP addresses.  When you create a website, you can choose your domain name, but the same is only partially true of sites like Facebook and Twitter.  Now that social media has become such a powerful internet marketing tool, it's important to drive prospects to these sites for further engagement and long-term marketing.  Here is a tip to make your Facebook domain name easy to remember.

If you haven't already created a Facebook business page, you can do that here.  Don't use a personal account for your business, or you will have to manually accept every person that wants to follow you.  Next, give people a reason to go there by posting interesting content and links.  Once you have 25 fans, Facebook will allow you to customize your URL.

To do this, go to facebook.com/username and choose the page that you wish to customize.  For branding purposes, it's wise to choose the same name as your website.  For example, our website is www.FosterWebMarketing.com and our Facebook page URL is Facebook.com/FosterWebMarketing.  The more consistent your web assets, the easier it will be to direct people there if you are offline.
