How to Get More Twitter Followers for Your Firm

If you are like most law firms, you have created a Twitter page and have less than 100 followers. And how many of those are family members and other people in your office? In order for Twitter to be an effective marketing tool, you have to seek out people who might be interested in your business. Here are a few tools to help you get as many followers as San Diego personal injury attorney Ross Jurewitz (he has over 4,000)!

  • WeFollow.com This is a directory of Twitter users that you can add yourself to for free. You can also seek out people to follow by many different categories. Be sure to tag yourself with as many relevant categories as possible.

  • TweetAdder.com One of the best ways to get followers is to follow other people. If you are a relevant and interesting source of information, there is a good chance they will follow you back. TweetAdder takes this to the extreme. Search for users to follow by location, occupation, who they follow, and who follows them. Once you amass a huge list of people to follow, TweetAdder does the rest for you. And if someone doesn't follow you back within a specified amount of time, it will automatically unfollow that user. A must have for serious tweeters.

  • Use Hashtags. When you use a hashtag, especially a trending one, your tweet is visible to thousands and even millions of people. Inserting yourself into breaking news is a good idea for all web marketing, but this is true for Twitter in particular. To learn more about hashtags, check out "Hashing Out Twitter #Hashtags."

  • Tweet... a lot. No one will notice you if you are tweeting once a month. You should be engaged with Twitter everyday. Use a tool like Hootsuite to turn your blog posts automatically into tweets. You also need to be deliberate about your tweets. An interest-sparking headline followed by a trackable link is the form most of your tweets should take. Send them to interesting pages on your site and offer your followers an incentive like a free book.

You can keep track of your Twitter growth over time with websites like TwitterCounter.com. Just like content, you need to stay the course to see results. For more information on using Twitter for your law firm, get a free copy of Tom Foster's book "Twitter for Attorneys."
