The Rules of Web Content for Attorney Marketing

Once you have captured users with your enticing headline, you then need to keep their attention as they read your article or watch your video. Web content for attorneys is more than just regurgitating something you read on another website, dated from two years ago. It needs to be fresh and relevant, and it needs to be your voice and your expertise. Here are some rules to follow when it comes to writing web content:

  • The Easy WayNEVER take the easy way. Whether it be your own words or not, never cut and paste from another website. Duplicating words without significant variance will hurt your page rankings.
  • ADHD – Jumping from topic to topic within one article to seem exciting will only cause confusion. Stay on topic, and keep it clear.
  • Boring – Do not put all of the important information at the end of the article. No one likes a cliffhanger when it comes to what they want to know. They want to know the purpose for the article at the very beginning.
  • PhD Accessible – You are not writing your dissertation here. Keep your articles easily accessible to all possible reading levels. Use “real-people” words instead of attorney jargon. Bullet lists, subheadings, and lists also increase readability and are good to use.

Use the above rules as you write, and your content will be what it needs to be in order to turn readers into actual contacts. You will then be able to email or call them, put them on your monthly newsletter list, and – when all works out perfectly – add them to your client list. It all starts with your written word.
