Three Free Tools to Keep an Eye on Your Competition

  • Open Site Explorer (www.opensiteexplorer.org) This simple yet ingenious free website allows you to type in a competing website and receive a list of sites that link to that site and the anchor texts. You can compare up to five sites.

  • Yahoo! Site Explorer (www.siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com) This intuitive and no-frills site allows you to see who is linking to your competition and gives you the option of downloading the information into a spreadsheet.

  • Google Trends For Websites (www.trends.google.com) This free tool from Google allows you to see competitor traffic, related websites that users also visited, and related keywords. However, this tool only provides data for websites of a certain size.
