What Are People Saying About Your Law Firm?

Whether you like it or not, people are going to talk about you and your law firm.  Your hope would be that what they say is positive.  Don’t be in the dark when it comes to these conversations.  Social networks and Google Alerts are two great ways to discover what people are saying.

Social Networks
More and more people are using social networking websites, such as Facebook and Twitter to talk about their experiences. You can find out if anything is being said about your firm by conducting real-time searches on these websites.  Last August, Facebook released its real-time search engine that allows you to search your company’s name to find out who is talking about you and what they are saying.  This search box is located at the top right of the Facebook page.  Soon Facebook updates will show up in Bing’s search results, as well.

You can find out if there are any conversations about your firm by also searching Twitter.  If you are signed up for Twitter, you can even join in the discussion.  Twitter updates are indexed by Bing and will eventually be available via Google’s Social Search.

Google Alerts
Google Alerts provide a free and simple way to get email updates about any topic you want to track.  You can request to receive emails via Google Alerts any time someone posts something with your name or firm’s name.  It is also an effective way to follow what is going on with your competitors.

By searching social networking websites and using Google Alerts, you can put yourself in a position to monitor online discussions and join in when appropriate.
