If you have read any of our books, reports or articles, then you already know the importance of continuously adding content to your attorney website. Search engines love websites with a lot of content and will reward these sites by giving them high rankings in search results.
While it is imperative to add unique content that is relevant to your practice or business, if you are targeting clients in a specific geographic location, then you also need to make sure you are writing in such a way that will reach them.
The good news is that it doesn’t take a lot of extra work to create content that is geographic specific. The following are some simple tips to help you reach more clients in your area:
1. Include your city and state in your page title. The most important element when it comes to ranking high among search engines is your URL. The URL is created from your page title. If your page title is too broad, such as “2009 Auto Accident Crash Statistics,” you are going to draw a nationwide audience. If you made it more location specific, such as “Dallas Auto Accidents At an All-Time High in 2009,” you will have a better chance of reaching your prospects.
2. Incorporate your city and state into your meta description. The meta description is that little paragraph that shows up in search engine results describing your web page. Be sure to keep your meta description relevant to the actual content on your web page.
3. Mention your city and state in your content. You should always try to work your keywords into your content whenever you can. Even better – try to relate the article or blog to the geographic location of your clients. For example, if you are writing about the recent Toyota recall, you can create an article about how the recall is affecting Dallas, Texas drivers and even list the local Toyota dealerships. 4. Don’t ignore your meta keywords. Each web page, article, blog, etc. that you create should have designated keywords. Although Google has said that it does not pull from this data, it doesn’t mean that the other search engines won’t.
