Have you ever noticed that the most compelling stories in the newspaper are placed above the fold? Newspaper publishers intentionally put stories that are the most important at the top of the front page and if there is no room for the entire story, you will at least find the title in this area.
Grab a newspaper to use as a guideline when designing content for your attorney website. Look at how the news stories are laid out. News reporters start with the most crucial information about the story first and then work through all the details in the remaining portion of the article. They know that they have to capture the readers’ attention within the first few lines, if they want them to continue reading.
Strategically Place Your Content Just like newspaper readers, search engines also assume that your most relevant and important content will be at the top of your web pages. That is why you need to include your keywords and key phrases in the first few sentences of your text, if possible. Try to place a key phrase in sentence one and then another in the second sentence.
Pay Attention to Headlines When you are looking at the newspaper, look at the titles. Reporters pay close attention to the headlines they create, because that is how they are going to get people to read their stories. Think about your habits when reading the paper or magazines. You are first going to skim through the titles to see if any seem interesting to you. As you create your headlines, a.k.a. titles, for your web pages, follow the same example.
The goal with your titles is to address your readers’ problems or needs. Your titles need to be compelling enough that your readers want to know more, plus there needs to be some type of solution. Keep your titles at about 25 words or less and include your key phrases.
By creating effective headlines and being strategic with your content placement, you can attract the attention of your prospects and improve your conversion rate.
