While there might not be anything wrong with this particular excuse – after all, you are busy – people who are just as stretched for time have been able to figure out how to get their books done. What’s their secret? They have created an outline and are following a writing schedule.

Create an Outline
You might have a general idea in your mind about what you want your book to look like, but if you haven’t developed an outline, you are going to struggle. An outline is essentially the "blueprint" of your book. It lists out the topics that will be covered in each chapter. The outline will help ensure that you cover everything that you wanted and that the book has a logical flow. It will also act as a reference when you are creating your writing schedule.

Make a Schedule
When it comes to book writing, you need to create a schedule. You can’t expect to sit down one afternoon and get your book written. You will find your mind wandering, thinking of all the other things you would rather be doing. The next thing you know, you are checking email, surfing the Internet and then shutting down your computer, with no book written! Instead, schedule time each day that will be dedicated to writing. Ideally, you should set aside 1 to 2 hours each day. If you are a night person, schedule this time in the evening and vice versa if you are a morning person.
