Don't Know What Gadgets to Use When Making Your Videos? We've Got You Covered.

The Fairfax Video Studio at Foster Web Marketing does everything (and does everything incredibly well) when it comes to video. Not only do we do video, video production and photography, but we also help business professionals and companies with their ongoing marketing efforts by helping them create high quality web video to add to their sites.

In order to do just that, there's some great technology out there, and we've filled up every square inch of our studio with it. Here's a list of the technology (video camera, lighting, audio, tripod, software) that we use to shoot and produce your videos with. If you're interested in creating your own videos, we'd recommend that you invest in similar, if not the same, equipment.

Video Camera
  • Sony or Canon ($700 - $1,200) 1080p or 720p AVHCD record format
  • Records to little SD cards 32GB - holds hours of HD footage
  • External microphone input (most important)
  • Low LUX number (low light capability) below three is great
Audio
  • Wireless UHF microphone set ($300 - $800) with a receiver that plugs into the camera
  • A wireless lavaliere microphone to clip on to a tie or jacket lapel
Lighting
  • Fluorescent or tungsten
  • Our resident cinematographer uses seven 5600k fluroescent lights to give a very vibrant look. Teeth and eyes look white versus yellow with tungsten lighting.
  • There is a wide range of lighting set-ups but budget $300 - $1,000 per light. You may only need one good fluorescent light.
Tripod
  • Get a Monfrotto aluminum tripod with a good fluid head ($300 - $600)
  • Green screen
  • Green screen sheet hung on a curtain rod with stands is ($200 - $300). Once hung, you'll need two dedicated lights.
Editing
  • Adobe Production Premium ($1,500) includes Premiere, Photoshop, After Effects, Flash, InDesign, Illustrator and Dreamweaver. Flash for PC is also a great suite.

This is a lot of stuff, and learning to use it and producing videos can be expensive and time consuming. However, if you have the time and energy to tinker with it all - by all means, go for it! Keep in mind though that we're professionals and this is what we excel at.
