Use Google Analytics to tell if your potential clients think you need a mobile website

In just a few years, experts believe that people will spend more time using their mobile phones to surf the web than their desktops. Not only that, but right now more than half of all local searches are done using a smartphone. What does that mean to your law firm? It means that you need to be ready to capture mobile web visitors with a well-designed, functional website.

Not sure if your law firm needs a mobile website to capture potential clients right now? Here's a way to use Google Analytics to help you make the decision.

Using Google Analytics to determine if your law firm is ready for a mobile website

First, log onto your Google Analytics account. If you are a DSS user, you can access your Google Analytics account right from DSS! Just go to Website Reports on the left sidebar in DSS under Site Admin, and click on View Google Analytics.

Once in Google Analytics, click on the link to view your analytics report. On the left sidebar you'll find a menu - choose Visitors, then Mobile, and then Mobile Devices. This will show you any mobile device activity on your website.

Now, look at the PERCENT of site visits from mobile visitors. The site in example #1 below has a whopping 16.39 percent of visitors coming via a mobile device! The second example still has an impressive 10.74 percent of site visitors coming via a mobile device, which is great when you consider that average is about 6 percent.

We recommend that if about six percent or more of your website visitors are coming from a mobile device, you should consider having a mobile version of your website built. This is especially true if your mobile visitors have a high bounce rate, which means they are leaving your site quickly when they come to it on a mobile device. A high mobile device bounce rate compared to your site's regular bounce rate indicates that your regular site is too hard to navigate on a smartphone.
