Going organic: why it is good for your food and your attorney website SEO

We all know what it means to go organic with our food, but what the heck does it mean to go organic with search engine optimization (SEO)?

Organic SEO basically means building your website the hard way, with great content and quality inbound links. Any good SEO professional will tell you that it takes a lot of work to get a website to the top of the search engine rankings - and keep it there. Just like in farming, going organic with your search engine optimization means trading short term gains for long-term benefits.

Organic content for attorney websites

When you hear the phrase "organic content" it just means content that is written to be truly useful to an end user. It means that keywords occur naturally in your content, and are not stuffed in your writing to the point that your pieces become unreadable. It means that over time you've regularly added unique, interesting and relevant content to your site. In other words, your site has grown naturally and contains content that is a great fit for your site (example, you are not putting estate planning articles on an auto accident site).

How to make sure you're building a law firm website with great organic content:

  • Don't force keywords into your content. If you're writing truly relevant articles for your potential clients, you won't need to keyword stuff.
  • You need a lot of content in order to grow your site organically. Our general recommendation is to add 30 pieces of content a month, but this number could be higher depending on the competitiveness of your area.
  • When you're focusing on quantity, don't neglect quality. You can't simply outsource your writing to your niece or the kid next door. You need to produce QUALITY writing to please the search engines and to keep visitors on your website. Remember that Google has been making a lot of changes to their search algorithm to weed out crummy content - you don't want that to be you!

Organic link building is also important for attorney websites

We've found that link building is a little harder for some lawyers to understand, but we want to stress the importance of organic link building as well. Organic link building definitely takes time - a lot of itme - but here are some reasons that organic link building is important:

  • Spending time and effort to get a link from a site with a high domain authority is much more valuable than getting an easy link from a content farm or low-quality site that might actually hurt your ranking.
  • If you spend the time to create a well-designed website filled with quality content, it will be easier for you to convince other sites with quality, well-written content to link to you. You'll both be doing each other a favor if your sites are discriminating and well maintained.
  • If you work hard to get a difficult to secure link from a great site, you'll be that much further ahead of your competitors, who may be churning out cheap content or using other ill-advised methods to pump up their site.

This all might sound difficult, but keep in mind that if you can't invest in your website's long-term future, you are not going to build anything of value. Also remember that sites you admire on the web all started with very little, and built themselves up over time. Last tip?
