Do you know the number one keyword that is attracting people to your website? It is your name. If you have ever used Google Analytics, you probably noticed that your name was the most popular keyword searched to find your website.
Many people are in the habit of using Google and other search engines to learn more about a person. If you saw a television commercial or were referred to a professional, wouldn’t you “Google” him or her? You probably would. When a friend, relative, acquaintance or previous client refers someone to you, that person will most likely look you up on the Internet. You need to make sure that he or she will find you.
You have the ability to control, for the most part, what comes up in the search engine results when someone types in your name as a search phrase. Blogs and social media websites are efficient tools that you can use to manage the information that will show up in search queries. Websites, such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, offer tremendous opportunities to attract the attention of potential clients.
To prove the relevance of social media, type in the names of people you know into one of the search engines. You will probably see their Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter pages on page one of Google. The more time that you spend on these websites, the better the odds of Google and other search engines ranking them. Plus, imagine the effect it will have on your prospects when they search your name and multiple web pages about you come up. It would be pretty impressive!
When you are all over the place, which is the impression you will give by blogging and using social media websites, your potential clients will think to themselves, “Wow, this attorney must be good, he has a blog, a website, a Facebook page, a Twitter page and is on LinkedIn. He must know what he is talking about!”
