Google has confirmed they are testing "infinite scrolling" in their web search results. While it's not surprising that Google is taking advantage of its users for the purposes of enhancing their search algorithm, it would be a major change if made official.
This....
Could soon look like this...
Google Image Search already uses infinite scrolling. They will display up to ten pages of results at once without the user clicking to a second page. After that, the user has the option to "Load More Results". If implemented in web search, it could give sites that rank on the second page a better change of being found. This potential change could be due to the fact that some searches are so competitive, some great information and content will never make its way to the first page.
Before any conclusions are made, it should be stated that Google is constantly testing and scrapping new features. In the meantime, how does this affect your law firm's web marketing strategy? Simply put, it changes nothing. Regardless of how people find the second page, the first page will ALWAYS be more important and more valuable.
