LinkedIn Announces New Company Status Updates

Posted on Oct 14, 2011

This week business-related social networking site LinkedIn announced a new feature for their Company profiles that confirmed that the website is taking more steps toward further engaging businesses and connecting businesses with other users. With the new feature, companies can now not only be "followed" by other users, they can also make status updates, post links, and post videos for followers.

The new status update feature was announced by LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner at the Connect:11 event this week.

LinkedIn hopes that the new status update feature will give companies the opportunity to share news, events, products, and job opportunities with others - and make their website even more brand-friendly than before. According to the company's press release, they want the new feature to help professionals and businesses connect and build relationships in relevant ways.

Recently, other social networking heavy hitters like Twitter and Facebook have been struggling with how best to integrate businesses and advertising in the most constructive and brand-friendly manner; however, LinkedIn may have an advantage, as it already has a website focused on business and aimed at well-educated and working adults.

The business networking website also announced that they will be launching a Certified Developer Program in which partners Buddy Media, HooteSuite, and Wildfire will offer companies a range of applications and tools to help them best utilize LinkedIn to connect with customers.
