Study Confirms the Importance of Facebook “Likes” for Your Law Firm

Posted on May 10, 2011

CityGrid Media and Harris Interactive released the findings of a recent study into consumer behavior on the Internet. Their study, entitled 2011 National Online Consumer Behavior revealed that the Facebook “Like” button has already become the preferred way for online consumers to show their support for local businesses. The Like feature on Facebook has “trumped the review” according to researchers.

The study included 1,006 adults who were interviewed via telephone from March 16 to 20. Researchers discovered that when users want to support a local business:

  • 75% of them will tell their friends
  • 20% click on the Facebook Like button
  • 13% write a product review

Researchers also found that women are more likely than men to socially support a brand or product.

Kara Nortman, SVP, Publishing at CityGrid Media, was quoted in a press release as saying “surprisingly enough, Likes are trumping reviews when it comes to sharing feedback, but this does not translate to Facebook being the first or only place consumers turn when deciding to try someplace new.”

With the Facebook Like button becoming more and more popular, it only confirms the fact that you need to be using Facebook and other social media sites to promote your law firm.
