Want Twitter to Suggest that People Follow You? Pull Out Your Wallet

Posted on Oct 05, 2010

It’s official.  For a nominal fee, Twitter will suggest that people follow you.

This new advertising format, known as Promoted Accounts, was launched a few days ago.  There had been rumors floating around about this new advertising opportunity, but it didn’t become official until last week.  However, it is still in the testing phases, so it is only being offered to a select number of advertisers.

According to Twitter’s blog, the company is “launching Promoted Accounts as part of ‘Suggestions for You,’ which suggests accounts that people don’t currently follow and may find interesting.”

Supposedly, Twitter will use algorithms to determine whether you would be interested in a particular Promoted Account.  The algorithms take into consideration the “account’s followers and determines other accounts that those users tend to follow.” Twitter will then display it in the “Suggestions for You” box that appears on the right side of the page.

It’s time to boost your social media marketing efforts, including your activity on Twitter.  For more information, order a FREE copy of our report, Twitter For Attorneys: A Quick Start Guide.
