Yahoo! Retires Site Explorer

Posted on Nov 22, 2011

The amount of competitors for Google Webmaster Central has just gotten shorter as Yahoo! Search officially shut down Yahoo Site Explorer yesterday, one more step in the direction of complete absorption by Google’s main competitor Bing. The news was delivered on the Yahoo blog where a short eulogy frankly stating the following can be found:

“With the completion of algorithmic transition to Bing, Yahoo! Search has merged Site Explorer into Bing Webmaster Tools. Webmasters should now be using the Bing Webmaster Tools to ensure that their websites continue to get high quality organic search traffic from Bing and Yahoo!.”

While those at Yahoo! are trying to downplay the death of Site Explorer, those who have used Site Explorer for years are visibly upset. The main source of angst is the fact that webmasters will no longer be able to track link data from third party websites unless they are willing to commit to using Majestic Site Explorer, SEOmoz Open Site Explorer or take a gamble in using new start up search engine Blekko’s webmaster tools (for a past post of ours on Blekko click here).

What does this mean for our clients and followers? Simply put, the free solutions to tracking backlinks are quickly dwindling and those like SEOmoz Open Site Explorer only allow you to track a certain number of backlinks before you are charged. What then is the solution? As always, the solution is to concentrate more on putting quality content onto your site to ensure that you continue to show up favorably in organic searches. Luckily for you we have the best SEO and content writing professionals that can either show you the right way to produce content or, if you’re too busy, write it for you.
