  • Can I monitor the traffic to my mobile site?

You can monitor traffic to your mobile website for your law firm using the free service Google Analytics (GA).  If you're familiar with GA, you already know that it's a great tool for tracking traffic and can help you tweak your legal web marketing campaign.

With so many smartphones in use today, many sites are offering a mobile version of their website.  Using Google Analytics, you're able to see how many people have visited the mobile version of your site.  It also gives you data on the type of smartphone the visitor used, including details on the operating system, such as Android or iOS.

This information isn't difficult to access, especially if you've been using GA.  Once you're logged in, just click on “view reports.” It’ll display the report right away or, if you have more than one account, you can select the one you want. From here, click the “visitors” tab on the left part of the screen, then “mobile,” and finally “devices” – this should display the traffic for your mobile site.

You can take a look at a variety of data, which GA has gathered on your behalf, such as which smartphones were used and the number of mobile visitors.  In addition to the basic data, you can also view more specific information regarding your visitors.  If you browse around the page, you will see that there are various arrows and drop boxes available for you to click on. This shows you in-depth information about how visitors got there, where they are from, and what they looked at.

  • I have decided to open a solo practice. How should I market myself when I am operating on a small law firm budget?

The Internet should be at the center of your marketing campaign. Most people use the internet as a primary resource when looking for local service providers, including law firms. Smartphones, tablets and other devices are making it easier for consumers to access the information they need on the fly. Therefore, the Internet needs to be where you are focusing the majority of your efforts.

In our article, How Do You Market a New Practice Area or Law Firm?, we talk about the three main areas that should be included in any attorney Web marketing campaign – social media, online video and your own website. For instance, you need to spend time on social media sites, such as Twitter and Facebook, since it gives you the opportunity to interact directly with your target market.

Search engines also give a lot of weight to videos and reward them with top positions in search results. Make sure that you are producing video clips that are optimized to attract search engines and your potential clients.

Of course, you should never ignore the significance of new and relevant content. By adding blog posts, articles, frequently asked questions and other content pieces to your website on a regular basis, you are placing yourself in a position of authority. People will view you as an expert and the search engines will look at you as a trusted source of information.

  • How can I make sure my law firms website isnt penalized by one of Googles next algorithm changes?

Google created major waves on the Web, as it made significant changes to the algorithm used to rank websites. There were two modifications made, with the Google Panda being the update with the biggest impact.  Sites with low-quality content were the ones hit the hardest by these changes.

If you have followed the advice that we have always given – to create interesting content, and a lot of it – your law firm’s website shouldn’t have been impacted by the Google update.  The more relevant and educational content you have on your website, the better your chances of ranking well with the search engines and attracting your ideal clients.

The algorithm changes are supposed to continue throughout 2011. To answer the original question – how can you make sure your website isn’t penalized? The answer is simple. Create high-quality content and follow the advice of Matt Cutts of Google, try to make a website that users love.

  • If I am getting a lot of traffic to my site, doesnt that mean that I have an effective attorney Web design?

Not necessarily. The goal of creating and maintaining a website is to attract quality leads. You have to think of your website from a marketing perspective. It should be drawing in the types of cases you want. If it is not, you need to re-examine your current attorney Web design.

  • How do I know if I have a good attorney Web design?

To answer this question, we have to ask you a question: are you getting quality leads through your website? If the answer is “no,” then you probably don’t have a good attorney Web design.

An effective attorney website is one that speaks directly to Web visitors and has the ability to capture leads. Too many law firm websites make the mistake of talking endlessly about how great they are and how many years they have been in business. These websites have boring content, no Web video and a lack of a call-to-action. If this sounds like your website, it is not too late to turn things around.

At Foster Web Marketing, we know what it takes to create an attorney Web design that will convert prospects into contacts. We know the various elements involved in developing and maintaining a profitable website. • Why should I get a web site with Foster Web Marketing?

We will provide a customized design for you that is properly coded for the search engines. There are many amazing designers out there that can really make beautiful web pages. But most sacrifice the mission for the art. The mission for an attorney web design is to promote a contact from a visitor. That is the only thing that matters! It doesn't matter how pretty your web design is if it doesnt get you any business from it.

  • What is unique content?

Unique content is the text on your website that no one else has anywhere. Unique content is good while shared content (information that is found on others websites) is bad for search engine optimization.  The search engines reward your website for having new and fresh (unique) content such as blogs, news articles, FAQ's and library articles and penalizes a website if it has the same content that is found on other websites.  Foster Web Marketing's content services team will always provide unique content.

  • What do I blog about?

You can blog about anything legal-related, but you should try to keep it specific to the location where your practice law. Blog about local news stories that relate to your practice area(s), like an auto accident on the local highway, or a recent verdict, and offer your expert insight and opinion on these topics. The more EXPERT information that you share, the more value that you're building with both your readers, and the search engines.
