  • I'm not very technical, can I REALLY update my site myself?

    Yes, you can.  If you can write an email, you can update your site.  Our content management system, DSS, is very intuitive and we give you the tools to be successful.

    Before your site is launched, you are provided an individual training session.  The training session is recorded, so you can revisit it with any questions you have later.  If you still have a question, you can ask request help through our on-line support request system.

  • How do I add video to my site?

    There are two ways to add video to your Foster Web Marketing site:

    1. Using our Enhanced Video Module (EVM).  Our content management system, DSS, has a module that enables you to upload video to both your site and to several video sites (You Tube, Yahoo!).  By using the EVM module, you drastically reduce the time it would take you to blast your videos to the individual sites.
    2. Upload your video to YouTube and paste the embed code to your web page.

  • Why should I upload my videos to YouTube and Yahoo!?

    Uploading your videos to several video sites will increase the number of places you will be found. The search engines will only give you one or two listings for your URL.  By uploading to the video sites, you can increase your search engine listings.

  • When I am doing a TV or Web Video interview, do I look at the camera or at the interviewer?

    This is a question we ALWAYS get from our attorney clients. When you are doing an interview - you should look at the INTERVIEWER and NOT the Camera.

  • Do I need a blog as a lawyer?

    ABSOLUTELY. People value your expert opinion, and there is no better way to have your voice heard than a blog. One of our clients was actually found recently by a CNN producer about Natasha Richardson's tragic skiing accident because he posted the news story on his blog and was interviewed by Anderson Cooper as a legal expert.   • What do I blog about?

    You can blog about anything legal-related, but you should try to keep it specific to the location where your practice law. Blog about local news stories that relate to your practice area(s), like an auto accident on the local highway, or a recent verdict, and offer your expert insight and opinion on these topics. The more EXPERT information that you share, the more value that you're building with both your readers, and the search engines.

  • What are blog tags and why are they important?

    We hear this question a lot. Think of blog tags as the keywords for your blog.

    Depending on what blog platform you're using, there are a number of ways that your blog can benefit from specified tags. Some blogs offer plugins such as tag clouds where each tag that has been designated to a blog post will show up in the sidebar, and the most commonly-used tags are in larger font. Most blog platforms also include a page for each blog tag. Why is this important?

    Let's say one of your practice areas is auto accidents, and motorcycle accidents is a tag that you frequently use. Every time you make a blog post that includes that tag, it gets added to the page that includes all blog posts including "motorcycle accidents" as a tag, making the chances of your blog being found through search engines greater.

    However, the main reason to use blog tags is to categorize your content. Google likes everything to be neat and tidy across the web. Think of blog tags as different buckets that groups posts together. You don't want to add tags for the sake of adding them though. Be strategic in how you use these tags and don't get too specific. It is more beneficial for users to have 4 tags that have 5 posts each assigned to each tag rather than 20 tags for 20 blog posts.

  • Is a first page Google ranking enough?

    Its a great feeling when you see your website getting on the 1st page of Google, but what about if you could get 3 or 4 out of the top 10 listings on any of the major search engines for your chosen keywords. This is known as Search Engine Rash, or SER for short. Search Engine Rash, (abbr: SER). def: 1. to have multiple first page listings in the search engines, 2. to appear all over the Search Engines like a rash. In our opinion, SEO is not just about getting on the 1st page of Google anymore - its about getting as many first page listings as possible in order to put you in a prominent position. Your prospects will get the impression that you are the expert in your field. SEO is no longer good enough to put you ahead of your competition, you need SER, Search Engine Rash to fully exploit the web.

  • Do keywords in domains need to be separated with hyphens in order for search engines to read them?

    The ability of search engines to parse keywords that haven't been separated by hyphens is always a popular topic. However, our research suggests that what's really most important is that your URLs are easy for search engines to crawl. That means using a site map, minimizing dynamic URLs (the ones full of ?, =, and & symbols), avoiding session IDs (such as &id=), and keeping your directory structure fairly shallow. Beyond that, it's always going to be a good idea to have your keywords in your domain name, since people will usually link to you with the keywords found in your domain name. Keywords in the rest of your URL are primarily important because they can make your page appear more relevant to searchers, enticing more people to click on your listing. And, of course, they can also provide a small ranking advantage However, to answer the question - Yes, you need to use hyphens, because currently most search engines are not parsing keywords out of URLs if those keywords are run-together and not separated with hyphens.

  • What about "Reciprocal Linking" how does that happen?

    A good search engine optimization company will be concerned about gathering quality inbound links to your website because "link popularity" plays a big factor in rankings. In Google, PageRank™ manages this. Because finding quality links from quality sites is very time consuming, many search engine optimization companies have tried to automate the process. One adverse approach to link building is automated reciprocal linking schemes, often responding to the ever-present emails that are sent to anyone with a website, looking for link exchanges to boost a site's link popularity. The danger here is that an outbound link from your site is counted as a "vote" for the site to which it links. If that site gets penalized, your site may get penalized in turn. (Google refers to this type of linking relationship as a "bad neighborhood.") A good search engine optimization company will concentrate instead on getting context matching, quality links to your website and adding the type of content that makes it worthy of non-reciprocal links from a variety of sites.
