We Know About Page Rank But What Is Author Rank?
Google has just announced a new addition to their search engine and it is leaving many to wonder the effect it will have on website content. Now, the search engine has the capability to feature content based on an author rank system. The author's name can be tagged and searched throughout a certain site, which can be a great way for users to locate content by specific authors.
It Was Inevitable
If you have multiple authors, the ranking allows users to find your legal Web marketing content no matter where it is on the site, but it must have an author tag associated with it. This system seemed inevitable, and it's finally here and offered by the largest search engine. Before this feature was implemented, mostly Web savvy users knew how to manipulate searches on sites to gather content from particular authors without spending too much time.
What this tool does is enable sites to link content to author pages and provide you with a collection of content by the author through Google – avoiding the site's search feature altogether. On the author page, you'll be able to see information about the author in addition to his or her content. This is a much better option than trying to use the inferior search feature on websites.
The Downside
Despite the positive attributes of authorship markup, there are downsides to it as well. The idea is to give the user the highest quality search results, but Google has made it so that an author tag has to point to the author page on the same site. So, if you're searching one site for the author's content, then you should end up with great results. However, if you're thinking that you'll also get results from other sites where the author may have posted content, then you're out of luck. You will just have to perform another search, the old fashioned way.
Although there is the aforementioned downside, let's be honest here, it's a great start and a promising system. There are many freelance authors who are decrying this feature since most of them write for more than one site, but given enough time, Google should be expanding on this idea.
