Things to Do
While you are here, you might as well see the town! Here are just a few of the many museums, tours, and performance venues available right in our backyard.
Check out DC’s vast array of historical museums ranging from African Art to the National Zoo. Smithsonian is the world’s largest collection of museums and galleries sprinkled throughout the heart of DC. Many offer no admission, so feel free to spend the day museum hopping!
Washington, DC, is known for its stately monuments and memorials that commemorate the events and leaders that mark American history. These amazing tributes are definitely a ‘Must-See!’
DC Bus Tour
Sit back and relax while listening to a narrative history of the nation’s capital. Hop on and off, as you please, to explore your favorite sights. Highly recommended: Monuments by Moonlight
Segway Tour
What better way to experience the city than on a Segway? You can get up close to see the sights, while not wearing out your feet—not to mention, they’re fun!
Relax on the Potomac as you enjoy a scenic tour of the city. Choose from the Washington Monuments Cruise, Alexandria-Georgetown Water Taxi, Mount Vernon Cruise, Pirate Cruise, Alexandria-National Harbor Water Taxi, among others!
Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Museum
Sister museum of the Air and Space Museum in DC. Located just minutes from Dulles Airport, you can watch planes take off from the observation tower, ride jet simulators, observe the restoration of aircraft, or check out the state-of-the-art IMAX theatre.
History buffs and art enthusiasts will enjoy visiting Old Town Alexandria’s Torpedo Factory. Converted from a working WWII torpedo factory into an art center in 1974, it is an Alexandria landmark. The Torpedo Factory houses artist studios, galleries, workshops, and the Alexandria Archaeology Museum. Open daily from 10 AM-6 PM.
Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts
Enjoy a picnic on the lawn at one of the summer concerts at Wolf Trap. Performances range from Santana to Hubbard Street Dance, and everything in between. The Filene Center is open from May-September, while the Barns offer year-round shows.
The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts
Spend a sophisticated night out enjoying the arts at the Kennedy Center. Look online for a full list of scheduled performances and tickets. Or, if you are looking to save a little cash, the Millennium Stage hosts free shows daily at 6:00 PM.
