The Inbox Placement details show where in the mailbox your email would end up if you sent it as is during the test process. We send your message to Gmail, Yahoo Mail, Outlook.com, and Zoho to see where it ends up on their systems. Keep in mind that Yahoo mail’s filter includes AOL, Verizon, and AT&T. If Yahoo is listed, you are good for these email providers as well. Also, Outlook.com is filtered by the same systems of companies using Office365 email platform without a third party filter. Zoho has a large user base, but is also one of the more independent free email providers and as such use different filterering. This makes delivery to ZOHO users a good measurement in overall deliverability.
We provide this detail to ensure you will get to the inbox of the majority of email services. If any % is listed under spam, you may want to look at the details of the Sender Identity Verification and Spam Score sections for answers. Anything listed under missing demonstrates an inability for the provider to deliver the message within 15 minutes. If you have questions about any of these subjects, contact us at [email protected].
Sender Identity Verification
1. DKIM adds a digital signature to every outgoing message. This lets receiving servers verify the message actually came from your organization. We implement this for most clients automatically, if this is red, send an email to [email protected] and we will help you get it resolved as soon as possible.
2. SPF specifies the servers and domains that are authorized to send email on behalf of your organization. Because FWM is sending email on your behalf for marketing emails as well as thank you emails, we need our email servers to be included in the list of servers authorized to send email on your behalf. We implement this for most clients automatically. If this is red, send an email to [email protected] and we will help you get it resolved as soon as possible.
3. DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance) is an email authentication, policy, and reporting protocol. It builds on the widely deployed SPF and DKIM protocols, adding linkage to the author (“From:”) domain name, published policies for recipient handling of authentication failures, and reporting from receivers to senders to improve and monitor the protection of the domain from fraudulent email. You should have a DMARC TXT record that at least implements the bare minimum filtering standards. We implement this for most clients automatically. If this is red, send an email to [email protected] and we will help you get it resolved as soon as possible.
Although the Inbox Placement will tell you 90% of what you need to know about delivery to major email providers, the Spam Score addresses companies that have their own email systems. We use the reporting of Spam Assassin and the hundreds of modules developed by its community to provide you with a Heuristic and Bayesian view of your test email. This looks at so many factors that we can’t even begin to address them all here.
If you score below 100, we will show you the details of things you can do to increase your score. This is why we call it a “test email.” There are nearly 600 conditions in your test email that we will check for best practices.
A score of 51-100 shows “Good” in Green and means that no spam filters should block your email.
A score of 31-50 will show “Average” in Yellow which means that there are some elements that need to be addressed that should appear in the details area. This Average score means that you probably have a 50/50 shot of making it into the inbox of the average contact.
A score of 0-30 means your email will likely be flagged as spam in red, and we recommend not sending these emails before resolving issues. Doing so may result in a negative impact to your email reputation. Please submit a ticket with details by sending an email to [email protected] if you have a test message that falls into this category.
