A Boy, a Bike, an Inspiration
Bill's story began the day he heard about a young foster child who was given the seemingly simple gift of a bike. The child's reaction was both heartwarming and gut-wrenching. Having never been given anything of his own, he'd never been able to call a single thing "mine." Because of this, the child never went anywhere without his beloved bike. It took him everywhere he wanted to go and gave him a sense of pride and freedom that was truly priceless.
Upon hearing this story, Bill knew that he wanted to give foster children something that had the power to take them where they wanted to go. Fortunately for Bill, a family friend had a connection to foster children. She gives her time to the Angel Reach program in Conroe, TX and sees the difference the program can make in the lives of foster children. Angel Reach strives to "break the generational cycle of abuse, neglect, and homelessness so that the lives of current and former foster youth can be enhanced."
With a worthy, local charity in mind, it was time for Bill to decide what to give the children—how to gift them something that would give them the sense of pride and freedom that the little boy’s bike provided.
After much deliberation, Bill settled on brand-new Kindles. He hopes that the 50 Kindles and Amazon gift cards he will give this December will allow the foster children the freedom that reading a book provides. Bill is also hopeful that the children will be able to use them for studying—for advancing their education and their lives.
