New Google+ Local Editor Updates That You Can't Ignore

Google likes to keep us on our toes, and their recent Google+ Local updates have done just that.

New features that may affect the way you use Google+ for your law firm include:

  • Improved status updates. Business owners will now find it easier get status updates and find out if their edits have been accepted or rejected.
  • A progress bar. This new bar helps ensure that business owners are filling out the most important information.
  • A new look. This change is meant to improve the appearance and performance of the site. Only time will tell.
  • Preset categories. In the past, it was possible to create your own custom categories to describe your local business services. Google has decided that you must now select your categories from their list of default categories.

The Loss of Custom Categories

The biggest news for you as a small business owner is that any custom categories you have entered in the past will no longer be displayed on your Google+ Local profile. We advise that you go to your page as soon as possible and see if this is the case for you. If you used the default categories in the past, you should be safe. The default categories remain in effect, but it's worth a look anyway.

If you have any questions about how these changes will affect your law firm's Google+ Local profile or do not know how to edit your profile, review our website for more information or call us today at 888-886-0939. Our legal marketing and social media team has been apprised of the changes to the Google+ Local editor and can help you ensure that the local business listing for your practice has not been negatively impacted by the updates.
