Participating in Google AdWords can be a wise use of your marketing money. When used correctly, AdWords targets your audience, increases brand recognition and helps grow your medical practice. But, if you get it wrong, AdWords can be a gigantic waste of money. And nobody likes to waste money.
The Wrong Way to Use Google AdWords
- Not being exclusive enough. In order to avoid paying for clicks from people outside of your area, go to the location settings and manually exclude areas in which you do not want your ads to show. This could include other countries or states. To limit it further, in the advanced locations options, select the option that allows you to target only "people in my targeted location."
- Paying too much for clicks from mobile devices. If you don't have a mobile site, you are wasting money by showing ads to mobile and tablet users. To remedy this, create a mobile site—a good idea no matter what—or turn off ads for mobile settings.
- Not choosing your landing page wisely. The page people see when they click on your ad should be short, dynamic, and well written. It should also include a strong offer and compelling call to action. To be sure your landing page is just right, consider hiring a professional to design your PPC landing pages.
